Online Readings

The majority of the readings in this course are online--most available for open access, some paywalled (but available to UCSB students for free via institutional subscription through the UCSB Library Proxy server.

Book to Be Purchased

Students need to purchase two physical books for the course:

  1. Franco Moretti, Graphs, Maps, Trees: Abstract Models for a Literary History (London; New York: Verso, 2005).  Paperback copies may be purchased at the UCSB Bookstore or from other sources.  The book should be acquired prior to the reading assignments for Class 4.
  2. Matthew L.  Jockers, Macroanalysis: Digital Methods and Literary History (Champaign, IL: University of Illinois Press: 2013).  Paperback and Kindle copies may be purchased online.  The book should be acquired prior to the reading assignments for Class 4.

Course Reader to Be Purchased

Students need to purchase a fairly compact reader of photocopied materials from Alternative Digital Printing (formerly called the Alternative Copy Shop), now located in the UCSB University Center (UCen), room 2264.  (Copies of the reader may be preordered online after creating a user account and receiving a Professor ID from the instructor of this course.)
